Why is my card transaction pending?

A pending card transaction means the funds have been reserved from your account, but the merchant hasn’t claimed them yet. We will hold your funds for a maximum of 10 business days before releasing them if the merchant doesn’t process the charge.

Certain businesses - such as hotels, petrol stations, and car rental companies —may place a temporary hold on your funds as a pre-authorisation. This allows them to adjust the final charge based on your total spend before completing the transaction. After confirming your final spend, businesses will usually reverse the previous pre-authorisation transaction and charge the correct amount within 30 calendar days.
